Late Bloomers Farm

CSA, Week 18

October 21 was the eighteenth week of our CSA  (Waldingfield Farm, pick-up point Sandy Hook Organic Farmer’s Market behind St. John’s Episcopal Church). This was the last week of the Sandy Hook Organic Farmer’s Market and we’ll be picking up the remaining CSA shares elsewhere, most likely on a different day of the week.

We scored:

  • purple and red potatoes
  • butternut squash (not pictured)
  • acorn squash
  • “spring” greens
  • broccoli rabe greens
  • Parisian squash
  • leeks
  • swiss chard
  • kale (not pictured)
  • broccoli

I just found your blog through the Eat Local Challenge website and have really enjoyed your focus on local foods. Our farmer’s market closes down in about two weeks too – this is my first year of really make an effort to eat as locally as possible, I’ve put a lot of things up, and hope that our local grocer will have enough to keep me at least fairly local over the winter. Great blog!

    Hi Jenn,

Maybe there are winter markets in your area. Last year, I lucked out and found one that was open once a month. Then another town started one. We had lots of meats, cheeses, eggs, and wine, but very few veggies. Good luck to you!
