Saturday was a mostly one-stop forage—I went to the Wholesome Wave indoor winter market in Fairfield. I scored:
- Heavy cream and egg nog from Trinity Dairy, Enfield (Smyth Family).
- Pleasant Valley (sheep) cheese from Beaver Brook Farm.
- Parsnips, celeriac, and carrots from Riverbank Farm. Riverbank also has jars of their own tomatoes (I sure wish I knew they’d be doing that—it would have saved me the trouble!) as well asother items.
- Chevre and goat milk yogurt from Beltane Farm.
- Porkchops, bacon, a whole chicken, and eggs from Ox Hollow Farm. By the way, Ox Hollow has large local turkeys, in case you want to have a holiday party or stock up your freezer for the winter.
- Bread from Wave Hill Breads.
I also stopped at the Sandy Hook Holiday event. I picked up some raspberry jam from Stoneledge Farm. I really like it on my yogurt in the morning.
I made a big pot of turkey soup when I got home and froze that.
We had Ox Hollow pork chops and pan sauteéd fennel (Stone Gardens Farm ) for dinner.
And on a totally unrelated note, my area woke up to the first snow of the season today (Sunday).

Riverbank has tomatoes? I’ll be on the lookout next time I’m at the market. I’ve been missing the tomatoes fiercely.
The first dusting on Sunday was pretty – but it was SO COLD!!!
