This week’s Dark Days Eat Local Challenge meal was my usual Mardi Gras meal, but all local:
- pancakes, made with flour from Wild Hive Farm and Micro Mill, an egg from Ox Hollow Farm, milk from Stone Wall Dairy, and butter from Trinity Farm. (Baking powder and salt: origins unknown)
- bacon from Ox Hollow Farm
- maple syrup from Bluestone Farm (vintage 2008)
And then we repent…
Bluestone Farm maple syrup! That stuff has its very own delicious taste, I’ve been putting it in almost everything lately 🙂 Is it traditional to eat pancakes for Mardi Gras?
Mangochild: How did you happen to obtain Bluestone Farm syrup? The pancake tradition is from the Episcopal Church. Typically, the youth group runs it as a fundraiser.
