Late Bloomers Farm

Saturday’s Forage, 1/23/2010

Wow—it’s been month since my last Saturday forage and the first of the year!

It was great to be back at the Fairfield Winter Market, which is happily back indoors. (Although, truth be told, it was probably warmer outside than inside this week!) I scored:

NOTE: No Fairfield Winter Market next week (1/30). The market will resume on Saturday, February 6, 2010.

Then on to New Morning Natural Foods where I scored these local items:

Good to be back in the groove.

What no Beltane Farm goat cheese? My kids are nuts about their bacci di capra, which is chevre (fresh goat cheese) blended with Italian chocolate and honey then rolled in cocoa. I spread this on artisan bread and serve it as a snack for the kids along with some local apples.

GFG: You caught me! Seriously, I love Beltane’s cheese, but have quite a bit of cheese on hand. I bought the ricotta salada impulsively–shouldn’t have done the taste test!

So when can I come by for some bacci di capra?

Hi: I just found your blog and I’m amazed. Pretty impressive. I’m a novice ‘foodie’ living in CT and just started reading books by Nina Planck. I’m trying to incorporate her practices. I have heard about the Ladies of Levita Road dairy products and was wondering if their dairy practices include grass fed and are hormone free cows? I can’t find a website on them. Do you know? I definitely plan on attending this farmers mkt – is it every Saturday? Thanks for your blog…it’s v. informative.

Hi Fran: The Fairfield Market is every Saturday (except yesterday–the theater had something going on). The Ladies of Levita Road folks will definitely be at the Fairfield Market next week. They would be more than willing to answer your questions.
