Harvested Garlic

I harvested my garlic last weekend. I wasn’t sure it was done, but other people in my zone were harvesting theirs, the stalks were starting to brown, and it seemed like the thing to do.

This was my entire yield:

Cute little things.

For comparison, these big ones are from Missy’s:

Missy’s mom is a real farmer. But don’t let the size fool you–these little cuties were packed with flavor and went quite well with my sautéed escarole!

I wish I could tell you what kind of garlic this is, but I don’t recall the name. I can tell you that I got the seed cloves from Bluestone Farm last fall.

  1. I was wondering about my garlic too. I took a tentative poke at a couple yesterday, but thought they looked too small. But seeing yours, they look pretty much the same as yours do, so maybe we are fine. Do you think I should go for it? The tops are certainly brown/falling over, and I don’t want them to rot with all the dampness lately.

  2. Hi MC: I was afraid of the rot too. It’s quite possible that my garlic (and yours) is of a smaller variety. Like I said, it certainly wasn’t short on flavor, and in the end, that’s what we want from garlic (and all the medicinal value)!
