August 20 was the ninth week of our CSA (Waldingfield Farm, pick-up point Sandy Hook Organic Farmer’s Market).
– patty pan squash
– kale
– green onions
– Asian eggplant
– blue potatoes
– lots of different tomatoes
I’m not sure which is which—here are the choices:
Local meal, no challenge:
– grilled beef filet from Laurel Ridge Farm in Litchfield, CT
– baked blue potato from Waldingfield
– patty pan squash sauteed with green onions and tomato (all from Waldingfield) in olive oil and a tad of chicken broth, salt and pepper (from out there). I used very little seasoning to allow the natural flavors of the vegetables to dominate.
I recognize a few of those tomatoes: Brandywines are probably the large, yummy yellow ones; the Cherokees are the red-and-green ones (and they are fabulously delicious); and Big Boys are luscious red ones. Sorry, don’t know the rest.
Isn’t it a hoot to discover all these varieties?? What unbelievable, amazing abundance!!
Hi CG. Yes, I do love discovering (devouring) all the different varieties. As luck would have it, MY CSA farmers (the Horan brothers at Waldingfield), specialize in tomatoes.
By the way, see my tribute to your tribute: https://www.latebloomersfarm.com/index.php/2008/08/cut-and-dried/.
