Local Meal of the Week (#9)

This week’s local meal was bacon and eggs, both from Ox Hollow Farm. The toast came from a whole wheat loaf with rosemary and kalamata olives (not local, just from New Morning, the local natural foods store) slathered with butter from Smyth’s Trinity Farm in Enfield. Simple, yummy, and quick.

  1. Hello, We live in CT and we used to buy Town Farm Dairy milk until it closed. So, sad. Anyway, I was wondering if you could tell me what you think of the milk from Trinity Farm. We think Town Farm was the best and we are looking for something comparable. They don’t have a website and I am trying to find out if they are grass-fed/hay fed and pastured in summer, hormones, antibiotics etc. Do you know what type of cows they use? Well, any feedback yo have on taste and quality would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

  2. Mangochild: New Morning is a natural food market, so much of what you’d expect is there. They have an excellent “provender” section with fresh and frozen meat and prepared food. They carry local foods as much as possible. The owner is a wealth of knowledge. I go there mostly for raw milk but end up picking up lots of other things. Their dried mango slices are better than any others I’ve had.

rebecca: If you’re in this neck of the woods, you might want to come to the Fairfield Market and talk to Dan from Trinity–he’s there every week and could probably answer all of your questions.
