2013 CSA – Weeks 18-20

And still more food from my Sport Hill Farm 2013 CSA. Here’s the bounty from weeks 18, 19, and 20.

Week 18 – 10/3/2013

  • 1 bunch of Brussels sprout leaves
  • 1 acorn squash
  • butternut squash

  • 1 bunch of baby beets with greens
  • 1 bunch of Hakuri salad turnips

Week 19 – 10/10/2013

  • fresh lima beans (to shell)
  • eggplant

Week 20 – 10/17/2013

2013 CSA – Weeks 15-17

Here’s the bounty from weeks 15, 16, and 17 from my Sport Hill Farm 2013 CSA. The problem with playing catch-up weeks after the fact is relying on a less-than-reliable memory and less-than-great notes. Still, lots of excellent, organic, farm-fresh food has been coming in!

Week 15 – 9/12/2013

  • 1 bag of cranberry shelling beans
  • 2 Asian eggplants
  • 1 bag of salad mix greens
  • 4 tomatoes, mix
  • 1 bag of green beans
  • 1 bag of potatoes

 Week 17 – 9/26/2013

2013 CSA – Week 8

Another exceptional week from my Sport Hill Farm CSA!

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 2 zucchini squash
  • 2 yellow summer squash
  • 2 Chinese eggplant
  • bag of mini cucumbers
  • 1 bunch collard greens
  • 1 head of red leaf lettuce
  • 1 bag green beans
  • 1 bunch of garlic
  • 1 bunch of Swiss chard

2013 CSA – Week 7 and Baba Ghanoush

In the middle of the hottest week EVAH, can you believe this outstanding Sport Hill Farm CSA bounty?!

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 2 zucchini squash
  • 2 eight-ball squash
  • 2 yellow summer squash
  • 2 cucumbers
  • 2 Chinese eggplant
  • 1 bag green beans
  • 1 bunch bok choy
  • 1 bunch tatsoi
  • 1 bunch scallions
  • 1 bunch collards
  • 1 bunch Tuscan kale

Patti says they the crops are running behind a couple weeks because spring was cold and wet.  Looks like the Earth is giving us plenty to keep us busy while we wait on tomatoes.

I dove right into that eggplant!

Baba Ghanoush

 Baba Ghanoush Recipe

  • 2-1/4 to 2-1/2 cups eggplant (roasted, pureed)
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 2  garlic cloves
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Wrap the eggplant in foil and roast in a 350 degree oven for about an hour (more for thicker eggplant). It was a HOT week. I did mine in the toaster oven.

Blend all ingredients together in a food processor until smooth and creamy.
